PLAYER PROFILES:

STEVEN AKRIGG (CENTRE HALF) ~ Signed from Warrington Town in January 2007 having played over 40 Unibond League games, and at only 20-years of age looks like a great prospect for the club.

MICHAEL BURKE (DEFENDER) ~ A former Wigan trainee…Michael featured in last seasons pre-season schedule, but another player who was sent out to Ashton Athletic to gain match fitness.  Could be one to watch this coming season.

AARON TURNER (MIDFIELDER) ~ Summer signing from Ashton Town in 2006, where he won the NWC Division Two Player of the Year Award in his last season.  Injured before the season started, Aaron eventually made a comeback against his old club …in the 1st Round of the Liverpool Senior Cup, scoring a hat trick along the way and has been ever present since!

PAUL WOOLCOTT (MIDFIELDER/WINGER) ~ Signed from Marine in September 2009, making his debut as a substitute in the 4-2 defeat at Lancaster City on Saturday 26th September 2009.  An exciting attacking winger with an eye for goal.

CHRIS ALMOND (MIDFIELDER/STRIKER) ~ Highly rated midfielder/striker who joined us from Ashton Athletic in February 2008, having first featured for Skem during the pre-season friendlies at the beginning of the 2007/08 season. The quickest player in the squad who is comfortable playing on the wing or up front, and will attract the attention of the scouts this season.

JOHN CASS (STRIKER) ~ 22-year old John Cass started his career at Skem as part of Tommy Davies’ successful Youth Team in the 2004-05 season, and made his way through the ranks.  Tommy Lawson noted his talents and took the combatitive midfielder from the reserves and immediately put him up-front – a change which paid dividends as his first season in the Unibond League was marked with a 19-goal return despite a good part of his season being blighted through injury.  John went on to ply his trade in the Blue Square North with Burscough FC, but once again injury threatened his career as well as a lengthy five-year ban which was reduced to 15-months on a appeal. John returned to Skem in January 2010 after serving his ban and is keen to resurrect the promise he previously showed – and few will forget the talents which once alerted the Manchester United FC as well as a host of Football League clubs.

TOMMY LAWSON (MANAGER) ~ Tommy took over the reigns in June 2006, and is a vastly experienced manager.  Tommy Lawson has a great pedigree at Unibond level, having taken Prescot Cables up from the North West Counties as Champions at the end of the 2002-03 season into the Unibond First Division where he gained automatic promotion to the Unibond Premier Division.

In his final season, Prescot were play-off candidates for a place in the Conference North.  Has also managed at Clitheroe, Congleton, Stantondale, Warrington Town and a brief spell at Skelmersdale back in 1992.

PAUL McNALLY (ASSISTANT PLAYER/MANAGER) ~ Winning back to back championships at Marine early on in his career, he then went on to play for Runcorn in 1997-98, notching up 20 goals in his first season.  He’s also played at Clitheroe, Oswestry, Southport, Stalybridge Celtic & Warrington Town. McNally is good in the air, and totally committed to the cause.  Originally a midfielder, Macca a 6ft 3ins veteran now operates as a defender, although he continues to return a very healthy goal rate.

BRIAN RICHARDSON (ASSISTANT MANAGER) ~ Brian managed North West Counties team Ashton Town for five years, and therefore brings a wealth of knowledge with him.

BILLY LEIGH (CLUB PHYSIOTHERAPIST) ~ Billy spent many years at the club as physio under Russ Perkins and later Paul Gallagher, and returned to the club in October 2008 in a full time role…not that he’d ever left the club – being a regular volunteer!

MICHELLE SCOTT (PHYSIOTHERAPIST) ~ A former Edge Hill University Student.  Under the scrutiny of Billy Leigh and with the aid of practical hands on tuition here at Stormy Corner, Michelle is now a fully qualified physiotherapist.
