Unfortunately dues to a waterlogged pitch tonight's game against Southport has been postponed. The game has been re-scheduled for this Thursday (22nd July 2010) with a 7-45pm KO. BIG GAMES AHEAD FOR SKELMERSDALE Skelmersdale United have arranged a handful of high quality pre-season games as a prelude to their promotion challenge in the Evo-Stick Division One North. Manager Tommy Lawson is pleased to be facing Southport in the clubs opening game on Tuesday 20th July at the Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College Stadium kick-off 7.45. Saturday 24th sees United entertain Football League opposition in the shape of Stockport County. Former Preston North Manager Paul Simpson has only been appointed County manager in the last few days, so he will be fetching a full squad for what is expected to be an exciting encounter. Kick off 3pm. On Tuesday 28th July Skelmersdale visit Golborne Sports, for a game that will give Lawson the chance to take a look at one or two of his trialists. The following Saturday 31st July sees the possibility of Skelmersdale capturing some early silverware as they play Liverpool in the final of the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup at Skelmersdale. The game has been held over from the end of last season when Liverpool were unable to fulfil the fixture. However, it is hoped that the Reds will fetch a strong team as a number of players will be returning from an extended break after their World Cup duties. Hence, it is hoped that they will arrive with a couple of star players in the squad. Tuesday sees Skelmersdale again on their travels, visiting North-West Counties side Bootle, for what will a very competitive game. There is no friendly arranged for Saturday 7th as yet, but the club are negotiating with a very profile club for that date. On Tuesday 10th August, Evo-Stick Premier Division Ashton United travel to Skelmersdale. Ashton have a reputation for playing good football, so it could be a very entertaining game between the two United’s. Subject to confirmation Skelmersdale have also arranged a high quality friendly for Saturday 14th August, when Northwich Victoria will visit, Victoria finished midway up the Blue Square North last season, but were controversially relegated to the Evo-Stick Premier Division, where they are expected to be among the teams challenging for a quick return. The 2010/11 season will be their first outside the Conference structure since 1978.
